For knitters who want to turn their craft into meaningful, intentional self-care
You already know knitting helps.
It calms you. Grounds you. Gives you space to breathe.
But when life gets busy, stressful, or overwhelming that space is often the first thing to disappear.
You might find yourself:
๐งถ Knitting less - even though you know it helps
๐งถ Starting different projects that donโt quite feel right
๐งถ Struggling to make time for yourself
๐งถ Or unsure how to actually use knitting as self-care, rather than just distraction
This course helps you change that - gently, realistically, and in a way that fits your life.
This is a self-guided audio course that weaves together:
Knitting
Self-care
Evidence-based psychological approaches (including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
It is:
โ Psycho-educational
โ Practical and reflective
โ Designed for real, everyday life
It is not therapy - and you donโt need any psychological background to benefit.
Dr Paula Redmond & Dr Mia Hobbs
This course has been created by two clinical psychologists with over 40 years of combined experience working in mental health - who are also avid knitters themselves.
That means:
The psychology is grounded, credible, and evidence-based
The knitting is realistic, meaningful, and lived
And the integration of the two is thoughtful, not superficial
By the end of this course, you will:
Understand why knitting supports your mental wellbeing - and how to use it intentionally
Feel clearer about what truly matters to you (your values)
Be able to choose knitting projects that actually meet your emotional needs
Have simple, usable tools for navigating stress, overwhelm, and self-doubt
Know how to return to yourself - even in busy or difficult times
Build a sustainable, compassionate self-care practice
Gentle, reflective and practical sessions you can listen to anytime, designed to fit around your life and your knitting practice. The course is grounded in theory from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, drawing on Mia and Paula's expertise in wellbeing and knitting.
These additional sessions will help you to apply the ideas in the course to particular settings and contexts:
๐ฑ For new knitters
๐ฉบ For health professionals (discussing burnout & self-care)
๐ซถ For therapists and helping professionals

You knit (or want to return to knitting)
Youโre interested in self-care but donโt want anything overwhelming or clinical
You prefer thoughtful, reflective approaches over quick fixes
You want something that fits into real life
not about knitting more. Itโs not about doing self-care โperfectly.โ
Itโs about:
Noticing
Choosing
And gently coming back to what matters
One stitch at a time.
"It scratched so many itches! I loved the focus on the benefits of knitting, the research behind it, the integration of therapeutic interventions into the practice of self-care, and the practical examples of how to integrate mindfulness into our self-care practices."
"I loved the opportunity to pause and really think about what the practice of knitting means in my life. It has inspired me to rein in my frenetic batch of WIPs so that I can work through them with clearer intent."
"I enjoyed listening to Dr. Mia and Dr. Paula speak to each other, I felt there was a great collaborative spirit and chemistry between the two. The worksheets and episode notes are helpful for giving a visual guidance of what is being discussed in each episode, really appreciated those! It felt like going to a therapy session in the best way - learning new ideas and tools, and helping me to be more mindful and thoughtful about my making."
"It was versatile and very interesting. It helped me to be more kind and mindful in my knitting."
No, the course does not cover learning to knit from scratch. However, if youโve never knitted before you can download our great free resource on how to get started.
Yes! As long as you know the basics, even if you are rusty, everything in the course will still apply to you. Our focus is much more on the process of knitting than on the outcome. If you want a refresh of the basics check out our free guide for new knitters.
We have designed the course to be self-paced so that you can work through it as fast or as slowly as you want to.
Overall there is over 6 hours of core content spread over 11 sessions, plus bonus material.
You will have access to the course for the lifetime of the course โ as long as it is available.
Although we are drawing on therapeutic models and tools the course is designed for educational purposes and is not a substitute for personalised professional mental health support. If you are concerned about your mental health please speak to your GP or a registered mental health professional.
